Why 25 ft is the length to start with
A 25 ft mini split line set covers the typical single-zone install with room to spare. The most common layout puts the indoor head on an exterior wall with the condenser on a pad or wall bracket below: a few feet down the wall, through the sleeve, and a gentle sweep over to the service valves. Measure that route on a one-story home and it usually lands between 15 and 22 ft — a 25 ft set handles it with slack for routing around a window, a hose bib, or a downspout without pushing you into long-run territory.
There is a second reason 25 ft is the sweet spot: factory pre-charge. Most mini-split condensers ship with enough refrigerant to cover a line run of roughly 25 ft — the exact figure is in your installation manual. Stay at or under that number and there is no charge math and no refrigerant to add. Go past it and the system needs a top-off, which is a scale-and-gauges job for an HVAC pro. If your measured route runs longer, see our 50 ft line set and the length limits guide before you buy.
One rule at this length: don't coil the excess
If your run only needs 18 ft, resist the urge to loop the leftover copper behind the condenser. Coiled line set traps oil, adds unnecessary refrigerant volume, and can hurt performance. The right move is to cut the lines to length, re-flare the cut ends, and connect — our install guide walks through measuring, cutting, and flaring step by step.
Pick your size
The 25 ft length is available in all three standard diameter pairs. Match the pair to your unit's service valves and manual — or run the size calculator if you're not sure:
- 1/4″ × 3/8″ — most 9k–12k BTU units (SKU LS-1438-25)
- 1/4″ × 1/2″ — most 12k–18k BTU units (SKU LS-1412-25)
- 3/8″ × 5/8″ — most 24k–36k BTU units (SKU LS-3858-25)
What's in the box
- One 25 ft insulated line set in your chosen diameter pair
- Pre-flared ends
- Insulation on both lines
All three are standard flared line sets — see flared vs. quick-connect if you need a no-vacuum DIY option. The copper works with R-410A or R-454B; match your tools and charge to your unit's refrigerant, and finish the run with a line set cover for a clean exterior.
